As communities across the country commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, Ridgefield has embraced the milestone through a year-long series of events honoring history, culture, civic engagement, and community connection from July 4, 2025 through July 4, 2026.
Ridgefield Commemorates America at 250 (RCA250) was created by Ridgefield’s Board of Selectpersons and is affiliated with the America 250 Connecticut Commission. The initiative was aimed at bringing together local nonprofit arts and cultural organizations to create programming that reflects Ridgefield’s history and the enduring ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
As Connecticut’s first designated Cultural District, Ridgefield has provided a vibrant setting for the commemoration. “What has meant the most throughout this process is seeing the community come together in such an enthusiastic and meaningful way,” said Pamme Jones, co-chair of RCA250 and Executive and Artistic Director of The Ridgefield Theater Barn. “There’s been a tremendous sense of pride, participation, and connection throughout the year.”
On July 3, RCA250 and the Lounsbury House invite the community to the Star Spangled Soirée, which will kick off Ridgefield’s Independence weekend celebrations with music, lite bites, and community gathering at the historic Lounsbury House. On July 4, RCA250 will host Party in the Park! in Ballard Park featuring lively contra (folk) dancing, live music by Bourbon and Britches, family-friendly entertainment, interactive activities, and a special reading of the Declaration of Independence presented by Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center.
To support the year-long commemoration, RCA250 is offering commemorative items available through donation, including T-shirts, hats, magnets, and mailbox covers. Merchandise can be purchased in advance on the RCA250 website or on-site in Ballard Park on July 4th.
The Ridgefield Commemorates America at 250 Committee includes Pamela J. Jones and Stephanie Heering, Co-Chairs; Renee Brown-Cheng; James Carone, Treasurer; Sara Champion; Louzette Dovaras; Dawn Fawcett; Deborah Rundlett; and Hildegard Grob (non-voting member).
