Born into a musical family in Germany, pursuing a career in music was a natural path for Alexander Scheirle. A former professional cellist, he received invitations to perform across Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
In 2016, Alexander became the chief executive of the renowned Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City—an ensemble whose main series is held at Carnegie Hall and performs in the world’s most prestigious concert halls and has become a symbol of excellence in classical music.
Scheirle, who moved to Ridgefield with his family four years ago because of the town’s focus on the arts, is a passionate advocate for making classical music accessible to all. Under his leadership, Orpheus launched and expanded several impactful initiatives, including “Access Orpheus,” which provides free tickets to up to 1,000 schoolchildren per concert, and “Orpheus Reflections,” a program dedicated to people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and their caregivers.
Looking ahead, Scheirle’s most ambitious project is “Orpheus for All,” launching in the fall of 2025. This initiative will offer one free concert per season at Carnegie Hall, offering anyone interested the opportunity to experience the transformative power of classical music.
