Cycling has become a worldwide pastime. In the U.S., there has been a bicycle boom, with ridership up 37% in recent years and nearly 55 million Americans riding bikes regularly.
And now, the popularity of cycling is influencing art…
Inspired by the grand tour races of professional cycling, including the recently-concluded 111th running of Le Tour de France, professional summer ballet company, Dansereye, invites you to experience its newest comedy ballet, La Bici (or, The Bike).
Set for its world premiere on August 9th, La Bici is fresh, athletic, and by turns, funny and touching. Dansereye will put their athletic and imaginative spin on the world of professional cycling, set to beloved Italian classics—music by Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, Felix Mendelssohn and Friedrich von Flotow.
Created by Dansereye Artistic Director and Founder, Scott Thyberg, La Bici’s sheer inventiveness and dazzling energy (complete with a scene called Water Bottle Waltz!) is sure to leave you humming the music and longing to get on a bicycle before summer ends.
Grace, precision, power, and athleticism—just a few of the many things cyclists and dancers have in common, will be displayed during La Bici and the rest of Dansereye’s performance, The Fifth Temperament.
Plus, with the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris underway, what better way to get into the performance spirit than by celebrating and cheering on dancers whom Albert Einstein deemed, “The athletes of the Gods”?
The Fifth Temperament will take place on August 9 & 10 at the Visual Performing Arts Center in Danbury, CT.
